Have you ever encountered a fictional character that the author intended you to think wonderful or sympathetic, and just found them really, really annoying? Not the ones they intended to be annoying, the ones they just assume you will love? The author thought they were creating a romantic, brooding, angsty hero but what comes over is a passive-aggressive pouter? or expects you to sympathise with their ever-so-sensitive heroine struggling against the vicissitudes of her existence when you can't stop thinking 'snap out of it and get a life'?

Don't you think these characters would be all the better for being repeatedly slapped around the chops with a wet codfish?

spn_bitesized is a community for comment-sized Supernatural fanworks. We post weekly themes and ask for prompts based on that theme in the comments; the prompts are then open for fanworks. Themes are open for prompts for one week and for fanworks indefinitely. We accept fics, art, icons, fanmixes, and any other fanwork format you feel inspired to create, from shadow puppet videos to sonnets. We accept all genres, all pairings, and all ratings. Past themes have included Women of Supernatural, a Kink Meme, FIVE for five things fanworks, and Thingamabobs & Whatchamacallits for fanworks inspired by material objects.

This week's theme is Hit the Books! It's like a kink meme that never ends, only you can post signed-in, any and all fandoms are welcome, and your fic doesn't have to be porny. For those not familiar with the concept, the basic idea is this:

1. Post prompts.
2. Write fic for other people's prompts.
3. Rinse and repeat!

hp_ssc_fest - Just wrapped up our third week of posting! Opening just one more fic that labeled rape and abuse as BDSM made me snap. SSC Fest is dedicated to restoring consent to BDSM fanworks, and is multi-pairing, multi-kink. As long as everyone involved consented to having a good time, it's welcome!

dramione - Draco/Hermione OTP. :) Fics, art, everything devoted to the pairing of Draco Malfoy and Hermione Granger.

draco_het - Draco Malfoy and the women of HP. Draco slash comms are easy to find; het, not so much. Hopefully, this will fill a niche. No matter the pairing, no matter the woman, het fanworks are welcome!

Fandom meta and essays

There's a newly made community for nonfiction and fandom meta notfic

Any fannish essays/meta about any fandom is welcome. Think of it a bit like a multifandom fic community, but for nonfiction. And feel free to comment on anything posted.

Things you could post there include (but are not restricted to): ship manifestos (and feel free to make the pairing as rare as you want), essays about why real sex is nothing at all like fanfic sex, an essay about why you write slash or maybe one about why you write gen or het, a post about the slash subtext in your favourite movie...

If you've written an essay about anything at all fannish and can't find anywhere else to post it (the pairing's too rare, the essay isn't specific to one fandom, you just don't want to post it in your own journal) then this is the place for you to share it with the world (or well... a small part of the world anyway).
