paperjournals is for anything related to paper journals, art journals, sketchbooks, etc. Scans and photographs of your own journals (whether they're handwritten, artistic, wrecked journals, or whatever) are very much encouraged, but discussion posts are very welcome too.
I'd like to take a moment to remind folks about fleecefiberyarn, a community where dyers, spinners, shepherds, and any other crafty-type folks can sell their fiber-related wares. We've got a few members so far--now we need some folks with something to sell! :)
dyeing is exactly what it says on the tin: a community for folks interested in craft-related dyeing. Basket reed, wool, silk, cloth, yarn...what-have-you.
spinning is a haven for spinners of all skill levels. Show us what you made, ask questions, share advice--it's all good.
Hi all! For the fiberarts enthusiasts out there, I've got a couple of comms you might enjoy:
dyeing: A place for dyeing enthusiasts to share tips, pics, projects, info, and questions.
fleecefiberyarn is a place for people to advertise any fiber, yarn, or other related stuff they have to sell or trade. The community is open to destashers as well as purveyors of handmade/homegrown goods.
spinning is a place for all things spinning--from fiber prep (or growth, if using vegetable fibers or keeping fiber critters!) to finishing your yarn.
bechdel_test -- This community is for evaluating movies according to the Bechdel test.
poetry -- This is for posting poetry you like, that's not your own.
dreams_library -- This one isn't mine, but I really want it to succeed, and the more people who are there the better. The idea is, you describe the kind of book you're looking for, and other people offer suggestions.
cross_stitch -- Also not mine, but I like it. People post up different cross stitch projects they've been working on.
I started fleecefiberyarn just now--it seems to be the only place on DW where people can sell their handmade/homegrown spinning, felting, and knitting stuff! If you're a dyer, spinner, or shepherd, please join and let us see what you got!
If you're not into selling your fiber stuff, but do like to dye or spin, please feel free to join dyeing or spinning. Both comms are really quiet so far, so it would be nifty if we could get them up and running. :)
And if you love some classic cinema--from a big range of decades and from any country--please check out classicfilm! My hope is that it can be a place for all sorts of cinema-related activity, from posting a pic of your favorite actor to discussing symbolism in Fritz Lang movies, and everything in between.
I'm posting on behalf of the moderator but I do not run these two communities:
list_busters is a community where creative people can organise their works-in-progress, get encouragement, and celebrate Actually Getting Stuff Finished. This is for all creative endeavors, writing, art, music, craft projects, whatever you may need a little boost to complete.
poor_skills is for people to share advice, tips, hints and help for living on a limited budget. It is also a place to ask for help in addressing problems brought about by economic limitations. This is not affililated in any way with the LJ community of the same name.
addme - A place to make friends. just post a little info about yourself and people will request to add you! A great place to make new friends.
animalcrossing - A place to post about any animal crossing game, share friend codes and show off your town!
art - This is the place for creative people. Share anything you've drawn, created or written!
england - Live, lived or just love England then this is the community for you.
finalfantasy - A community for fans of the popular Square Enix video game series, Final Fantasy. Any and all Final Fantasy related posts are welcome here.
kingdomhearts - Same as above, only this time it's Kingdom Hearts!
lifeonmars - The Life on Mars community, for fans of the British TV series Life on Mars starring John Simm and Phil Glenister.
rats - Rats make brilliant pets, and this is the place for you to post photos, write stories and share information to help other rat owners out!
Hi! If there's any movie buffs out there, I hope you'll consider stopping by classicfilm. The projected emphasis is on older films, up to about the 80s or so. Not sure where we'll go yet, but I hope it can be a place to talk about great movies from all over the world.
I created a community for handspinners, too, predictably called spinning. If you're interested in turning fiber into yarn, it is the place for you!
tatting is a community dedicated to the lace form of tatting. I'm one of the mods over at tatting and so decided to go ahead and form a home for us over here -- or anybody else interested.
I started a community called magpie for folks who make jewelry. All levels of skill and experience welcome, all styles of jewelry, and any topic that relates to jewelry.
The description says "Magpie's Workbench: all jewelry makers welcome."
(Who I am: a jewelry maker all my life, professionally so for the past eleven years come this fall. Sometimes people write things based on my named pieces. This is a lot of fun; one good example is the "Nine Things About Oracles" project, where people have created more than a hundred different artworks in various formats as a response to a pendant called "Nine Things About Oracles," shown here. I believe making things and sharing art leads to inspiration and more art, in ever-widening ripples. I figure a community like magpie is a likely place for more of that. I look forward to being inspired, and to cheering other people on.)
recipebox for sharing favorite recipes - there's a cookie recipe that just posted that's a must for chocophiles.
pix_elation is for hobbyist digital photographers from 'just opened the box' to serious amateur digital photographers who want to share their shots and how-to.
Around two years ago I created a german wishlist community on livejournal and since then many users over there did random acts of kindness and fullfilled wishes of people they didn't know. I now created a similar community for DW and made it an international one. I hope some of you want to join and bring over the spark to DW :)
wishlists Make dreams come true. Grant others a wish they have, small or big, and post your own wishlist.
historicalembroidery (med_embroidery on LJ) - For discussion of historical embroidery, primarily focused on "SCA period" (c. 500-1600 CE), but as long as it's "historical," have at.
naturaldyes (same on LJ) - For discussion of natural dyes. Historicity not mandatory.
