[community profile] photofriends is a place where hobby photographers share their experience and improve their skill.

From the community profile:

We are hobby photographers from all skill levels with cameras ranging from phone camera to pocket size to SLR. Similarly, our subjects range from our children to our pets, to skylines at night, to macro photography.

We share tips and tricks. We tutor each other. We drool over that spiffy *insert equipment of choice here* and bemoan that we cannot afford it. We do not suffer snobs among us. (Elitists join at their own peril and will be mocked without mercy.)

If you are the proud (if sometimes puzzled or frustrated) owner of any kind of camera and want to learn how to do more than “just” point and click, we’d love to have you! We’d also love to have you if optimizing your pointing and clicking is the sum total of your photographic aspirations.

You will fit right in with us if you: read your camera’s manual and find yourself thinking “but what does it mean?”; follow the weather report to know the exact time of sunrise or sundown; might leave the house without breakfast, but not without your camera; in any given situation find yourself wishing you’d brought your camera along.

Please be advised that this community has a default security setting of members only.

The idea behind [community profile] nailfiles is something similar to a fannish storyfinders comm, but for people who enjoy nail polish, nail art, etc.

Looking for that perfect pastel yellow creme? Ask the comm. Want to get opinions on the best top coat for the money? Ask the comm. Looking for a cheaper dupe for that super-expensive Chanel polish? And so on.

[community profile] nailfiles is a by the people, for the people comm...which means that it needs people to work! Membership and posting are open.

A CROSS-FANDOM POST-APOCALYPTIC RPG @ DREAMWIDTH

set in the world of Stephen King's “The Stand”

PREMISE | SETTING | TAKEN | RULES | FAQ | APPLICATION

This is how the world ends:

June 13, 2012. A nanosecond computer error in a U.S. Defense Department laboratory results in the accidental release of Project Blue, a bio-engineered superflu virus with 99.4% communicability and a 99.4% mortality rate.

First comes the fever, then the cough, then trouble breathing as the neck and face swells and turns black. Death occurs within three days of exposure to the contagion.

It takes only 19 days for the virus, dubbed 'Captain Trips' by the media, to spread and wipe out almost all of humanity. Panic, martial law and anarchy sweep the world in its wake. Between June 16 and July 4, the world succumbs to a modern-day Black Plague.

The stench of death and putrefaction is everywhere: rotting corpses litter the streets and almost every home. Roads and tunnels are flanked with vehicles that serve as coffins for millions who die while trying to flee the cities and their hometowns. Glass and debris are strewn across footpaths and roads from looters and panicked people trying to stock up on survival essentials.

Only 0.6% of the population survives Captain Trips. You are one of the survivors.

You don't know how you managed to remain immune to the virus and you don't know why. The hows and whys aren't important; what is important is finding other potential survivors.

You begin trekking across the country in search of others. You see many horrors along the way, most of which you've become impervious to after all the horrors you've witnessed in the wake of Captain Trips. Eventually you start coming across crude handmade signs that tell you to go to Boulder, Colorado.

Your gut tells you to follow those signs and your gut is right: after several weeks of travelling, you arrive in Boulder, exhausted, sunburnt, dehydrated, and discover a small community of survivors. The first of the survivors arrived in Boulder on July 24, 2012, almost six weeks after Captain Trips was exposed to the world. They, too, have travelled from far and wide in search of others, and have banded together to form a new democratic society known as The Free Zone.

It's here that humanity must rebuild.

It's a community centered on the paranormal, from ghosts to ufos to everything inbetween. I've been a bad mod and it's sat stagnant for two years while I haven't really been journaling, but I'd like to get the ball rolling with it again.

Also looking for co-mods to help me this time around, since I was too stubborn when I decided to open it. If you're interested, send me a PM.

Hello! I have recently created a new comm for people who are interested in bartering/trading homemade and handmade items with others. This is not a community for buying and selling, but for bartering/trading only.

[community profile] bartering

Community rules are available on the comm profile.

Please introduce yourself when you sign up and let people know what you're offering/looking for.

This is a very small comm right now, and will only be successful if lots of people join and get involved. So if you're interested in (legal!) gray-market type dealings, freecycling, bartering, trading, art, baking, and all those other sorts of things, please join us!
