Barter/trade community
May. 31st, 2012 06:24 pmHello! I have recently created a new comm for people who are interested in bartering/trading homemade and handmade items with others. This is not a community for buying and selling, but for bartering/trading only.
bartering
Community rules are available on the comm profile.
Please introduce yourself when you sign up and let people know what you're offering/looking for.
This is a very small comm right now, and will only be successful if lots of people join and get involved. So if you're interested in (legal!) gray-market type dealings, freecycling, bartering, trading, art, baking, and all those other sorts of things, please join us!

The Dinner Party

dinnerparty: A recipe exchange with a spin
The Dinner Party is a bimonthly recipe exchange run much like fanwork exchanges. Each exchange has a theme, participants are matched & prepare a menu for one another with recipes, stories, photos, music or whatever they'd like, to suit the theme.
The theme for January/February is "Dinner with Friends." Sign-ups for the first exchange are open through January 21.

Dec. 28th, 2011 04:09 pmHi all, not posted here in some time but I would like to pimp out two new communities!
First up we have
theoldbluebox, which I co-maintain with a friend. We're both quite unhappy with the changes at LJ and the way that communities are being affected, and so we've imported it here to Dreamwidth! Here you can share all Doctor Who-related news, pictures, macros and squee (which reminds me; I really must post a picture of the Adipose stress toy I recieved for Christmas)! We are also looking to be affilliated with some of the other Doctor Who communites out there, as long as the maintainers are nice, and not giant Vampire Fish or something!
Do you enjoy pickling and preserving home-grown produce, or taking those leftover onions and turning them into a wonderful onion and rosemary jam? I noticed a distinct lack of communities for creative homemakers and cooks, and so I bring you
in_a_pickle. Please join and share your successes, failures, advice, recipes, pictures and vegetable/fruit/herb garden tips!

New Food Community
Dec. 28th, 2010 06:25 pmI was sitting here, eating my thai noodles from a package that I had modified with cabbage and mushrooms to be healthier and more delicious, and contemplating making Kalhua Cake that requires a box of cake mix, and I realized that I wanted a community that has recipes that are made easier by using a base of prepared mixes or foods but are still delicious and healthy.
notfromscratch is that place!
Post your recipes, your questions, your ideas!

Do you like chocolate?
Oct. 14th, 2010 12:00 amCome and talk about your favourites at the new community
chocolate_lovers.
There are so many wonderful brands and styles of chocolate out there, let us know about the ones we may not have discovered yet. If you have a favourite chocolate shop, whether online or off, tell us where to find it.
What's the most unusual flavour of chocolate you've tried, and did you like it?
Or perhaps you love the everyday brands that you ate growing up - they may bring back fond memories.

Sep. 22nd, 2010 04:13 pmSimilar communities (I have no affiliation with these, but think that they could use some activity as well!):
(Also, there's no tags for "nature" or "environment" yet, if those could be added that would be awesome!)
I meant to do this Monday...
Sep. 22nd, 2010 02:01 pmHere are some small communities I run that I'd like to see embiggened. Please feel free to join and start participating!
literaryicons is a place to submit and request text icons based on works of literature, especially those that don't have television shows and movies based on them. It can be hard to express your love for a fandom that doesn't have pretty pictures and hot actors/actresses! I'm working on some Lois McMaster Bujold icons now.
newgotham is a community for people in, around, and traveling to Chicago. I've been trying to post links to free festivals and gatherings, reviews of cool businesses and places, and bits of Chicago history.
singleserving is a cooking community for small batch cooking. Live alone? Have a small kitchen? Just starting out? Jump in here! Post recipes, experiences, and requests. I did a post on potatoes that a lot of folks found helpful, and I'm going to do a write up on rice next. I started this community to fulfill a request, but honestly I'm more used to large batch cooking, so I'd really love if more people were posting recipes and tips.
labyrinthine is a fan community for Sarah Monette, primarily her Doctrine of Labyrinth books but also her Booth/Bone Key books.
Multi comm promotion
May. 8th, 2010 08:49 amI've been away from DW for a while but thought I'd get back into it, and part of that is promoting some comms I'm with. I hope some of them strike your fancy!
adiml: A Day In My Life chronicled by photos.
anonymous: Sometimes we just need to talk with our names off.
australia: For anything to do with Australia and the folks who live there. Or used to live there but moved away.
babies: Pregnant, have kids, want kids, or just like babies? Talk about them or get advice.
baking: Like to bake? Share your pictures and recipes here!
dreams: If you want to talk about or interpret a dream or two, here's the place!
legacychallenge: For sims 2 or 3. Can you make it to ten generations?
legacywriters: A comm to offer help for writing and playing legacies for sims 2 or 3.
parenting: If you're looking for advice, answers or parenting debates, check this out.
secrets: Got a secret you want to share? Turn it into an image and get it out here.
sims: A community for all the other sims games, on any gaming system.
thequestionclub: Got a question? Ask away!
thesims2: General chat and questions relating to the game.
Promoting a few older ones:

Mar. 8th, 2010 09:05 pmHome Economics 101
Jan. 29th, 2010 09:54 pmDo you have questions having to do with managing a household, be it one on your own, with a partner/partners, a family, friends, strangers? Questions like "how do I remove cat pee from my carpets", or "something just came off the wall and I have two left hands, WTF do I do???"? Or maybe, "what food do I really need to keep in stock?", or "I have x amount of money and need to serve y people dinner - anyone?"?
Or have you found the perfect solution to keeping walls from getting moldy and want to share it?
This is your community.

Vegetarians
Sep. 18th, 2009 06:16 pmHi, I've recently been added as a maintainer for the community
vegetarian
We're a fairly open community, for any vegetarian or vegan related discussion (at the moment, we mostly just have recipes). Currently we are quite small, but would like to expand into being a general community for all veg*ns and veg*n friendly people on dw, hence the promotion.
So if you're vegetarian, or just interested in any sort of veg*nism, feel free to stop by and say hi, ask a question, or post your favourite vegetarian link or recipe.

Cake Decorating!
May. 7th, 2009 09:57 amHi all, I've created a community called
cakedecorating , and it pretty much does exactly what it says on the tin.
If you're interested in fancy decorated cakes, from cupcakes to wedding cakes to crazy sculptural pieces (a la Ace of Cakes) then you'll probably like
cakedecorating ! I also hope this will become a place to share tips and tricks, as well as reviews of tools and books, and discussion of decorated cakes people may find IRL or on the internet - cake wrecks are just as welcome as show-offs and gawking/inspiration.
Again, anyone is welcome - you don't need to be a cake decorator, just have an appreciation for or interest in decorated cakes!

New cooking community!
May. 7th, 2009 03:37 pmAfter several imperial-to-metric baking experiments that are best left in the bin, I created
gram_for_gramme, a cooking and baking community for recipes that use the metric system:
Wished that you could swap recipes that're in metric -- without being asked to change the measurements to cups and pounds? Frustrated with trying to work out imperial-to-metric conversions? Want to share success stories on converting recipes, or wish that someone would?Posting guidelines and community rules can be found in the profile, and here.
Step right in and make yourself comfortable! :) We also welcome tips on converting recipes to the metric system and reviews of kitchen tools, recipe books and TV cooking shows.
