photofriends is a place where hobby photographers share their experience and improve their skill.

From the community profile:

We are hobby photographers from all skill levels with cameras ranging from phone camera to pocket size to SLR. Similarly, our subjects range from our children to our pets, to skylines at night, to macro photography.

We share tips and tricks. We tutor each other. We drool over that spiffy *insert equipment of choice here* and bemoan that we cannot afford it. We do not suffer snobs among us. (Elitists join at their own peril and will be mocked without mercy.)

If you are the proud (if sometimes puzzled or frustrated) owner of any kind of camera and want to learn how to do more than “just” point and click, we’d love to have you! We’d also love to have you if optimizing your pointing and clicking is the sum total of your photographic aspirations.

You will fit right in with us if you: read your camera’s manual and find yourself thinking “but what does it mean?”; follow the weather report to know the exact time of sunrise or sundown; might leave the house without breakfast, but not without your camera; in any given situation find yourself wishing you’d brought your camera along.

We have three different challenge categories, and we're accepting all kinds of creativity so long as it fits into one of those challenges. So far, we have people signed up for fic, vids, and art and we'd love to see fanmixes, fantasy casting, icons, meta/essays, or anything else you can get to fit the challenge.

Multifandom: fem_thoughts Mini Meta Fest

fem_thoughts is having our 3rd Annual Femslash Mini Meta Fest.

Mini meta is like regular meta, only mini. The aim isn't to end up with thousands of words of meta, but somewhere around 300 words. (Although if you get inspired and write thousands of words no one will complain and similarly if you only have 100 words in you for the topic that is fine as well.) This, hopefully, creates much less pressure and allows more people to post what is on their minds without worrying about it being the most perfect thing ever.

Original Big Bang 2012 - artists needed!

We've closed sign-ups for writers for this year's round, and our reversebang round is currently in progress, but we definitely need artists. We've still got a ways to go until artist claims open, but we want to get an early start on the recruiting!

This is our third year, and we hope that this year will produce stories and fics as amazing as the last two years. You can check out our info post and FAQ for more details on the challenge, or have a look at the master lists from 2010 and 2011.

Here are some dates:

Saturday, September 15 - artist sign-ups close
Tuesday, September 18 - summaries for art/mix claiming go up
Saturday, October 27 - ALL final drafts due
Thursday, November 1 - posting starts
